EQUIPMENT:
Equipment and systems covered by this certificate are as follows:

There three types of viscometer, the XL7 (aka ‘Viscojet’), the ViscoMelt and the Indie (aka ‘Reactavisc’, ‘Viscolite’ or ‘Go Visc’).  All the instruments measure fluid viscosity by electrically sensing the damping, due to the fluid viscosity, experienced by a mechanical, torsionally resonating shaft system, part of which is immersed in the process fluid.  Two electromagnets connected to an amplifier module maintain the vibrational resonance of the shaft system.

CONDITIONS OF CERTIFICATION: YES as shown below:

1.

Some versions of this equipment use an aluminium alloy enclosure and ignition sources due to impact and friction sparks could occur.  This shall be considered when an aluminium alloy enclosure is installed.
2.The Indie, Reactavisc, Viscolite and Go Visc versions of this equipment may use a plastic enclosure that could generate an ignition-capable level of electrostatic charge under certain extreme circumstances.  Therefore, the equipment shall not be installed in a location where the external conditions may lead to the build-up of electrostatic charge on such surfaces, particularly in zone 0 applications.  Additionally, the equipment shall only be cleaned with a damp cloth.

EQUIPMENT(continued):

XL7 Viscometer (aka the ViscoJet) incorporates a microcontroller in the smart head module allowing a bi-directional serial data link to safe area equipment. Frequency measurement is performed within the module. The transducer calibration constants are stored within smart head module, which can calculate viscosity. The smart head module has a platinum resistance thermometer (PRT) input allowing transducers equipped with a PRT to measure temperature. Viscosity, temperature and other parameters can be telemetered to safe area equipment via the serial data link. XL7 transducers can be supplied in a variety of different sizes, with many different process fittings. The only user connection is a 3-wire supply connection, which is by means of a 3-way terminal block inside the enclosure, the cable exiting the enclosure via a gland.

ViscoMelt Viscometer, this model is designed for high temperature and pressure applications and can be retrofitted to polymer extruders via a standard 1/2"-20 UNF threaded port, commonly used by temperature and pressure sensors. The only user connection is a 3-wire supply connection, which is by means of a 3-way terminal block inside the enclosure, the cable exiting the enclosure via a gland.
Indie Viscometer (aka Reactavisc, Viscolite and Go Visc) is a compact viscometer that uses the smart head module and has a stainless steel, aluminium alloy or plastic body.  In these instruments, the dimensions of the mechanically resonating sensor element vary between models, but in all cases the welded sensor forms a metallic barrier between process fluid and the instrument electronics.  The process connection/seal is an elastomeric compression-type gland, fitted over the welded resonator system.  This fitting is deliberately separated from the environmental seal of the electronics enclosure.  These instruments are usually equipped with an integral temperature sensor.  Field connections enter the plastic enclosure via a plug and socket.  The only user connection is by means of a plug-and-socket connector mounted on the wall of the enclosure.
All models have the following safety description:
Ui = 28 V dc, Ii = 0.12 A, Pi = 0.84 W, Ci = 0, Li = 10 μH
The Manufacturer shall note the following conditions of manufacture:
1.For viscometers designed for use at more than 10% above normal atmospheric pressure, the maximum design pressure rating shall be indicated in the documentation supplied to the user and the manufacturer shall carry out a routine pressure test on the wetted components and welds that are exposed to process pressure at 1.5 times the design pressure
2.The manufacturer shall test 100% of all manufactured units in accordance with the dielectric strength test in IEC 60079-11:2006 clauses 6.3.12 and 10.3. 500 Vrms shall be applied between the circuit and the metallic enclosure for a minimum of 60 s; the maximum current flowing shall not exceed 5 mA and there shall be no flashover or breakdown.

DETAILS OF CERTIFICATE CHANGES (for issues 1 and above):

Issue 1 – this Issue introduced the following changes:

1.The addition of drawings detailing the positioning and wiring connections of the integral PRT temperature sensor in the XL7 viscometer and the Viscomelt polymer melt viscometer.
2.The inclusion of an additional Condition of Manufacture.
Issue 2 – this Issue introduced the following change:
1.A more generic definition of the coil cable was recognised, this is defined on the assembly drawing H21-04-062 Revision 6.
Issue 3 – this Issue introduced the following changes:
1Mechanical changes to the ‘Indie’ version to allow a higher process pressure were endorsed, the description was modified to reflect this change.
2A correction to the certificate holders’ postcode from YO17 0NW to YO16 6YA was approved.
