Equipment and systems covered by this certificate are as follows
 
 
The Model 2011 Sealing Nipple is intended to provide the means for interconnection of wiring between two separate ‘Ex d’ flameproof enclosures or the interconnection of wiring between two separate ‘Ex t’ ’dust protected’ enclosures. It is of cylindrical design having an M20, 1.5 mm pitch male threaded portion at each end of a central hexagonal section. It is manufactured from stainless steel and accommodates five, 18 AWG, insulated wires potted within the bore of the body. A stainless steel hexagonal locknut is incorporated with the device where an M20 thread is provided. The Model 2012 Sealing Nipple is an alternative design in which one of the threaded portions is provided with a ½” NPT-14 thread form.

Schedule of limitations
The user/installer shall comply with the following:
1.The limits of the temperature range to which the sealing nipple device may be subjected when in service is -40 °C to +85 °C and the maximum temperature at the point at which the device is to be fitted must be taken into consideration.

 

2.The maximum r.m.s. voltage rating of the wire insulation is 600 V.

 

3.The sealing nipple device has been subjected to a pressure test at a value of 30 bar.

 

4.When the sealing nipple device is used in applications where the marking Ex ia IIC Ga is appropriate it must be supplied from an intrinsically safe source.

 

5.When being used in applications where the marking Ex ia IIC Ga is appropriate:

 

 •  The sealing nipple device shall only be used for the interconnection of Intrinsically Safe wiring between two separate ‘Ex d’ flameproof enclosures or the interconnection of Intrinsically Safe wiring between two separate ‘Ex t’ ’dust protected’ enclosures.

 

 •  If the wires in the sealing nipple device are connected to different Intrinsically Safe circuits then the sum of the intrinsically safe voltages (Ui) of any two different Intrinsically Safe circuits shall not exceed 90V.

 

6.A maximum applied torque of 55 Nm shall not be exceeded when installing the sealing nipple device.

 

7.The interface between the male thread of the sealing nipple device and the associated enclosure cannot be defined and therefore it is the responsibility of the user to ensure the appropriate degree of ingress protection is maintained.

 

8.It is the users responsibility to ensure that the sealing nipple device, if required, is appropriately bonded to earth for example by means of the threaded parts of the body.

 

9.The sealing nipple device must be connected to earth by means of the metallic body of an enclosure to which it is fitted or where the device is fitted to a non-metallic enclosure, the appropriate steps must be taken to ensure that the device is electrically in contact with earth after installation [e.g. by means of an enclosure’s internal earth plate].
