The Tunnel Laser, Type LD.60.IS, is a laser diode equipment used in accurate construction and alignment of tunnels. The device comprises a 2 mm thick stainless steel cylinder enclosure, which houses the electronics & four D-size batteries (Panasonic LR20GW). The cylindrical enclosure measures approximately 455 mm in length and 60 mm in diameter. The front glass holder and threaded battery end cap are located at opposing ends of the cylinder. The end cap comprises a power switch and an internal battery spring to maintain contact pressure on the cells and the power switch. Both ends of the cylindrical enclosure are made of brass and protected by black rubber caps.
The batteries can only be removed or replaced in a non-hazardous area.
