EQUIPMENT:
Equipment and systems covered by this certificate are as follows:

m-Comm Hand Held Unit

The m-Comm Handheld Unit is a portable, battery powered, communications device designed to communicate with other m-Comm Handheld Units and an m-Comm Base Unit via a monofila guide wire which passes through an inductive coupler located within each unit
The m-Comm Handheld Unit comprises a 9 volt PP3 size battery, a microphone/speaker insert, a printed circuit board (PCB) and a toroid coupler. The electrical components including an optional wireless module, which are mounted on the PCB, (with the exception of the battery current limiting resistor and the microphone/speaker insert), are totally encapsulated. All these component parts are located within a carbon loaded, conductive, plastic enclosure held together by tamper resistant fasteners. This enclosure affords a degree of protection of at least IP54
An earphone may be plugged into a jack socket located in a wall of the enclosure
An optional low battery indicator, in the form of a light emitting diode (LED), may be fitted. A spring clip arrangement enables the unit to engage onto the guide wire so that the wire can pass through the toroid coupler
As an option, the PP3 battery may be replaced by an encapsulated rechargeable battery pack
The m-Comm Hand Held Unit may be fitted with an optional wireless module
Refer to EQUIPMENT (continued) for the m-Comm Reel Hub Unit and m-Comm Wireless Module Unit.

CONDITIONS OF CERTIFICATION: YES as shown below:

1

When the m-Comm Handheld Unit and the m-Comm Wireless Module Unit are in the hazardous area, they shall only be externally attached to devices that are marked with the Certificate number IECEx SIR 12.0011X.
2The PP3 Battery in the m-Comm Handheld Unit shall only be changed in a safe area.
3The m-Comm Handheld Unit, m-Comm Reel Hub Unit and m-Comm Wireless Module Unit shall only be charged in a safe area and from a supply that does not exceed 0.66A, 100V peak and a fault level current less than 50A.
4The ambient temperature range for the m-Comm Handheld Unit, m-Comm Reel Hub Unit and m-Comm Wireless Module Unit is -5C to +40C; therefore, it shall not be subjected to temperatures outside this range.
5Regarding  the  m-Comm  Wireless  Module  Unit,  no  precautions  against  electrostatic  discharge  are necessary  for  hand-held  portable  equipment  that  has  an  enclosure  made  of  plastic,  metal  or  a combination of the two, except where a significant  static-generating mechanism has been identified.  Activities such as placing the item in a pocket or on a belt, operating a keypad or cleaning with a damp cloth, do not present a significant electrostatic risk; however, where a static-generating mechanism is identified, such as repeated brushing against clothing, then suitable precautions shall be taken, e.g. the use of anti-static footwear.

EQUIPMENT(continued):

m-Comm Reel Hub Unit

The reel m-Comm Hub is a version that is very similar to the m-Comm Handheld Unit, with the exception that the electronics are contained within the centre of a cable reel.
The m-Comm Teel Hub Unit may be fitted with an optional wireless module.
m-Comm Wireless Module Unit
This comprises a handheld unit containing a encapsulated battery assembly, encapsulated electronic circuitry, loudspeaker, microphone, on/off switch, an indicating LED, a charging socket, a socket for the connection of a external microphone and a socket for the connection of an external earpiece.
Conditions of manufacture
The Manufacturer shall comply with the following:
1. The products covered by this certificate incorporate previously certified devices, it is therefore the responsibility of the manufacturer to continually monitor the status of the certification associated with these devices, and the manufacturer shall inform Sira of any modifications of the devices that may impinge upon the explosion safety design of their products.
