 | EQUIPMENT: | | | |
 | Equipment and systems covered by this certificate are as follows: |
 | |
 | m-Comm Hand Held Unit | | The m-Comm Handheld Unit is a portable, battery powered, communications device designed to communicate with other m-Comm Handheld Units and an m-Comm Base Unit via a monofila guide wire which passes through an inductive coupler located within each unit | | The m-Comm Handheld Unit comprises a 9 volt PP3 size battery, a microphone/speaker insert, a printed circuit board (PCB) and a toroid coupler. The electrical components including an optional wireless module, which are mounted on the PCB, (with the exception of the battery current limiting resistor and the microphone/speaker insert), are totally encapsulated. All these component parts are located within a carbon loaded, conductive, plastic enclosure held together by tamper resistant fasteners. This enclosure affords a degree of protection of at least IP54 | | An earphone may be plugged into a jack socket located in a wall of the enclosure | | An optional low battery indicator, in the form of a light emitting diode (LED), may be fitted. A spring clip arrangement enables the unit to engage onto the guide wire so that the wire can pass through the toroid coupler | | As an option, the PP3 battery may be replaced by an encapsulated rechargeable battery pack | | The m-Comm Hand Held Unit may be fitted with an optional wireless module | | Refer to EQUIPMENT (continued) for the m-Comm Reel Hub Unit and m-Comm Wireless Module Unit. |

 | CONDITIONS OF CERTIFICATION: YES as shown below: |
 | | | | |
 | 1 | When the m-Comm Handheld Unit and the m-Comm Wireless Module Unit are in the hazardous area, they shall only be externally attached to devices that are marked with the Certificate number IECEx SIR 12.0011X. | | 2 | The PP3 Battery in the m-Comm Handheld Unit shall only be changed in a safe area. | | 3 | The m-Comm Handheld Unit, m-Comm Reel Hub Unit and m-Comm Wireless Module Unit shall only be charged in a safe area and from a supply that does not exceed 0.66A, 100V peak and a fault level current less than 50A. | | 4 | The ambient temperature range for the m-Comm Handheld Unit, m-Comm Reel Hub Unit and m-Comm Wireless Module Unit is -5⁰C to +40⁰C; therefore, it shall not be subjected to temperatures outside this range. | | 5 | Regarding the m-Comm Wireless Module Unit, no precautions against electrostatic discharge are necessary for hand-held portable equipment that has an enclosure made of plastic, metal or a combination of the two, except where a significant static-generating mechanism has been identified. Activities such as placing the item in a pocket or on a belt, operating a keypad or cleaning with a damp cloth, do not present a significant electrostatic risk; however, where a static-generating mechanism is identified, such as repeated brushing against clothing, then suitable precautions shall be taken, e.g. the use of anti-static footwear. |
