Equipment and systems covered by this certificate are as follows:

The encoder type ***78E is a small cylindrical unit (78 mm in diameter, length changes with lid), containing low voltage electronic components.

The type of protection is realized by an Ex-d flameproof enclosure. The three piece construction is manufactured from aluminium, stainless steel or acid-proof stainless steel. The unit comprise four flame-paths, a cylindrical joint between the lid and body, a cylindrical joint between end-cap and body, a threaded cable entry and one cylindrical rotating shaft held in place with 2 precision roller bearings.

  • The encoder must not be opened in a hazardous area when energized.
  • M4 Allen screws on the removable connection cap placed on the rotary encoder must be tightened to a torque of 3,5 Nm +/- 0,5 Nm.
  • Rotary encoder cables must be protected externally from pull and torsion stress.
  • Repairing on enclosure and flame paths can only be done by the manufacturer.
