EQUIPMENT:
Equipment and systems covered by this certificate are as follows:

A 3350kW, 6.6kV, 3 phase, 4 pole, 50 Hz Water Cooled Synchronous Purged and Pressurised Motor comprises a fabricated steel motor casing employing a closed internal cooling air circuit, which is cooled using a fabricated steel water to air heat exchanger mounted adjacent to the motor housing.

An internal fan is attached at each end of the rotor for the circulation of the internal air around the windings and through the heat exchanger.

The rotor is supported by frame mounted bearings at both ends.

At the non-drive end there is an exciter housing.

The motor and cooler assembly, the main and neutral point terminal boxes and the exciter housing are designed to be purged and pressurised by an Expo Minipurge Leakage Compensation Control System. The assembly is provided with an inlet for the pressurisation and purging air and pipe work forming an air distribution system. A flow monitoring and spark arresting device is provided for the exit of the purging and pressurising air.

The low pressure monitoring port is situated in front of the internal fan at the drive end. Metal pipe work connects this to the low pressure switch within the pressurisation and purging control system.

The motor and exciter are fitted with increased safety heaters to IECEx BAS06.0081U. Increased safety terminal boxes to IECEx BAS 08.0021U are provided for the connection of these heaters and also for the connection of internal air and bearing resistance temperature detectors (RTDs).

See Annex for full details.

CONDITIONS OF CERTIFICATION: YES as shown below:

1. The enclosures are purged with air at a flow rate of not less than 3000 l/min (3 m3/min) through the outlet for a period of not less than 45 minutes.

2. Each and every machine is to be subjected to an internal overpressure test of 52.5 mbar for two minutes, followed by a leakage test at 35 mbar. The leakage shall not exceed 1000 l/min (1 m3/min).

3. The pressurisation and purging system attached to the enclosures must be:-

a. Set to provide the above purge flow rate and time
b. Set to provide a low pressure monitoring system set to a minimum of 4 mbar.

Additional information:

Conditions of Certification continued

4. The pressurisation and purging system attached to the enclosures shall be subjected to a test to demonstrate effective operation under the following conditions:-

a.  Underpressure - The low pressure switch is to operate if the enclosure overpressure falls below the minimum specified above (e.g. if an inspection panel is opened).

b.  Purge flow failure - The purging system (including the timer) is to reset to the beginning of the purge cycle if the purging air flow rate (measured at the outlet) falls below the minimum specified above (e.g. the supply restricted during purge).

c.  Supply pressure failure -The low pressure switch is to operate when or before the enclosure overpressure falls below the minimum specified above (e.g. the supply restricted after purge).

5. For correct operation the on-site pressurising air supply must be capable of providing a minimum of 500 l/min (0.5 m3/min)  for leakage compensation.

6.  The heating element supply circuit is to be interlocked such that the heaters cannot be energised whilst the motor is running, and this supply circuit is to include a suitable protection device as detailed in IEC 60079-7.

7.  The resistance temperature detectors included in the stator windings on this machine are to be separately protected (i.e. by connection to an intrinsic safety circuit), or automatically disconnected in the event of a purge/pressurisation failure.

8.  Precautions shall be taken to guard against danger from high temperature and voltage in the secondary circuit of the current transformers in the event that the secondary circuit, external to the pressurised enclosure, becomes open-circuit.

9.  This motor is supplied with bearing insulation, the user is responsible for checking the effectiveness of such installations at appropriate intervals, e.g. by the use of a 100V insulation tester and by visual inspection to ensure that no unpainted, unearthed metal can be shorted to earth.

10.  The minimum specified cooling water flow rate is 440 l/min at a maximum temperature of 33°C.

11.  The attention of the user is drawn to the need to ensure that certified ancillaries are appropriate for the conditions of use and are interconnected in accordance with IEC 60079-14.  The Conditions of Certification, or Schedule of Limitations as appropriate for individually certified units (equipment or component), remain applicable to the units fitted to this motor.
